At the end of a stressful day, there’s nothing better than drawing a hot bath, pouring a glass of wine and lighting a scented candle. This hand-poured candle from Mixture in the Tuscan Olive scent will do the job perfectly. And now, it can be yours for free!

Win this hand-poured candle from Mixture!

That’s right, this is our second giveaway! The owners of STUFF, that wonderfully artsy store I profiled in my last post, are giving away one 5-ounce candle from Mixture along with a few trial-size goodies! STUFF carries Mixture’s entire collection of home, body and kitchen fragrance items.

Here’s how to register for this giveaway: In honor of the 3/50 Project I mentioned in the post below, tell me in your comment

  1. the name of YOUR favorite independent, one-of-a-kind shop in your town AND
  2. the name of your town (city and state).

You have until next Thursday, April 29 at 10 pm Central Standard Time to register. Then we will draw a random winner and announce the winner on Friday, April 30, at 8 am CST.

Here’s an added bonus: For those of you who love to travel and shop at unique stores, you can use the favorites listed in the comments to plan future shopping adventures!

Scoops of paradise here in Haleiwa Hawaii. They serve homemade ice cream featuring fresh locally grown organic fruit! They also sell local artists work! Such a great store, and such a great giveaway! Hope I win!

Kimberly,
Yum! Sounds like a “cool” place! Now if I can just find a way to get to Hawaii… : )

My town is so tiny that most of the stores HAVE to be indie stores! :) My favorite is the small diner here in Hughson, CA called Hamilton’s Cafe.

The Olive Branch in Downtown Overland Park. And of course Nell Hills in Atchiton, Kansas and in Kansas City, Missouri and The Curious Sofa and Mission Road Antique Mall in Prairie Village, Kansas. I have more favorites!

Cathy April 27, 2010 at 2:16 pm

Kate, I just discovered The Olive Branch last weekend when we went to the OP Farmer’s Market. I LOVED that store! In fact, we plan to go to a BBQ festival hosted by the KC Culinary Festival in old OP this weekend. I may also take photos of the cute shops there and post an article about the unique shops! In fact, I love ALL the shops you listed. You and I may need to hang out together, girl! I’m sure we could talk Lori Crimm into joining us on a shopping adventure!

Love the Banyan Tree in the Tremont neighbourhood of Cleveland, Ohio. Lots of great, quirky, hard-to-find stuff, and their sale rack is awesome!

Thanks for the chance to win!

My shout out goes to A Stitch in Time in Jacksonville, Florida. A great yarn and needlecrafts shop that’s been around forever (long before knitting became “trendy”…) Knitters love to support their local independent yarn stores :)

P. S. Cathy, I love your blog! Will read Donald Miller’s books because of your recommendation.

I like The Tree Stump in Greensboro, NC

Cathy April 28, 2010 at 10:17 pm

Laura,
Great to hear from you! I saw your most recent knitting project on Facebook. You are one talented gal. I’m guessing your yarn shop loves having you as a customer! Just doing your part to support your local economy : ) You will love Don Miller’s books, particularly the one I post about. He does a great job of articulating his spiritual journey, to which I could really relate.

I am from Cary, NC and my favorite local independent shop is Imaginese. They have the coolest, most random, hand made items. I love shopping there!

Emily Veale April 29, 2010 at 3:25 am

My favorite shop in Roseburg Oregon is Cellar Doors. I can always find something unique for people there!

Susan Dillard April 29, 2010 at 2:07 pm

I love Brookside because it has everything I need in life and I can walk there. My favorite shop would have to be the New Dime Store.

Cathy April 29, 2010 at 5:38 pm

Susan, Yes, if I could add a fourth favorite shop to my post about Brookside shops, I would definitely add the New Dime Store. I’m so glad they preserved the original wood floors in that neat shop!

My favorite store is this cute little Candle Shop in Leavenworth, Kansas. They have a ton of handmade items from Military Wives right there at Fort Leavenworth. It’s the cutest store I’ve ever been to! I don’t know if they have a website, but here is their facebook. http://www.facebook.com/CandleQueenCandles

Thanks!

Cathy May 13, 2010 at 5:02 pm

Christy,
How cool that they carry hand-made items from military wives. I love to see stores encourage independent artists.

I love 2nd Treasures in Fillmore, CA- though there really isn’t much to choose from, we’re a small town. But, 2nd treasures in old town has the most adorable keepsakes, crafts, and second hand deals!
